Welcome to Salkaara
Salkaara – derived from the word Salkaram in Malayalam which means hosting a guests or a feast or even just a hearty welcome. In line with its meaning , we at Salkaara have great pleasure in serving each and every one of our guests. At Salkaara we aim to take you on a gastronomical journey of various Indian flavours and Chef Santhosh’s mastery over the combination of such flavours. Hailing from Kerala – Chef Santhosh’s menu does lean towards Keralan or if not South Indian cuisine but we do have a variety of dishes from other parts of India combining them with the best of British produce wherever possible
Meet our Chef
The brain behind Salkaara- Chef Santhosh has been on the Cardiff food scene for the last ten years having helmed a couple of chains of restaurant before venturing to begin his own restaurant. Prior to this he had stints in Devon and some prominent names in Dubai.
Having jumped out of school at a young age , it was his passion whilst helping his mom in the kitchen that brought to knock on the doors of a commercial kitchen . Within a few months he ended up at one of Kerala’s most famous restaurants – Paragon in Calicut. He says‘’Every time a customer comes and expresses their happiness in eating our food just inspires me in doing more. It is just a unbelievable feeling that you experience’’.
Our Food
Each and every dish is freshly prepared to have its own distinct combination of flavours such that no two dishes are similar and we aim to create seasonal changes to the menu to match with supplies available, weather , festive and Indian traditions. We always tend to use some of the best suppliers locally in sourcing our meat , fish and poultry . We also tend to mix and powder some of our spices to achieve the unique Salkaara taste.
